Local students Abby Wesley (12, from Lisarow Public School) and Charlotte Daniel (7, from Empire Bay Public School) have won a competition to name the tower cranes at the Gosford Hospital redevelopment site.

The two schools each received $1000 worth of books, after judges deemed Abby’s suggestion of ‘Lofty’ and Charlotte’s suggestion of ‘Lane the Caring Crane’ the best of nearly 300 entries.

Both students joined representatives from their schools, Dr Andrew Montague, Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast Scot MacDonald, as well as representatives from Lendlease at an official ‘Name the Crane’ ceremony on Wednesday 2 November.

On her entry form, 12 year old Abby wrote: “Lofty is a good name for a crane as the word lofty means tall, high, giant, towering, sky-high and of imposing height.”

Seven year old Charlotte suggested the name ‘Lane the Caring Crane’ because: “The crane looks over all of the patients and is working hard to make the hospital bigger and better.”
